AC 800F – The Field Controller

The ABB DCS AC 800F controller distributes process and diagnostic data from four fieldbus gateways. If required, it can also work with various fieldbus types – and this ABB AC 800F Controlleris, of course, in addition to the usual tasks of a "conventional" controller. Thanks to its compact and sturdy design, the AC 800F is suitable both for installation in the control room and for use in junction boxes directly in the field.

The ABB DCS AC 800F hardware
The ABB AC 800F has a modular structure. The AC 800F CPU is designed as a backplane to which various modules – power supply units, Ethernet or fieldbus modules – can be attached in line with the application. On the fieldbus side, modules for PROFIBUS-DPV1, FOUNDATION Fieldbus HSE, MODBUS (master/slave, RTU or ASCII), IEC 608 0-5-101 and CAN for Freelance Rack I/O are available. The fieldbus line and the connected PROFIBUS slaves are entirely configured and parameterized using the Control Builder F engineering tool. No further external tools are needed for configuration. PROFIBUS slaves can be integrated into the system using a GSD) file or FDT/DTM). In the case of FOUNDATION Fieldbus, configuration takes place using CFF or DD files. This allows fieldbus parameterization even without connected field devices.
Also Freelance Rack I/O can be connected to the ABB AC 800F, in which case a CAN module is used. This allows you to operate five I/O racks, with a total of around 1000 I/Os, for each AC 800F. The I/O racks are equipped with a link module and up to nine I/O modules and can be mounted separately at a distance of up to 400 m from the AC 800F.

AC 800F Fieldbus modules
The ABB AC 800F uses the fieldbus modules to collect and process real-time and diagnostic data. Up to four fieldbus modules can be mounted into one AC 800F.

The fieldbus modules have the following tasks and
characteristics:
• Electrical isolation between the process and system
• Status LEDs for the module status
• Independent fault detection and fault signaling
• Connection of the fieldbus lines

ABB AC 800F control applications can be created in any of the five IEC 61131-3 dialects by using Control Builder F.

ABB AC 800F functional range

The ABB AC 800F scope of functions provided by the Freelance system corresponds to the basic supply defined in IEC 61131-3, in addition to numerous other high performance, industry-proven functions and function blocks. They are accommodated in a function block library and can be supplemented by user-specific function blocks. While designing the station and during configuration, the processing capacity and speed of the process station can be easily adapted to the demands of the automation task. Program execution in the process station is based on a task-oriented, real-time multitasking operating system, leading to a flexible strategy for processing programs.
Different modes are available for task execution:

  • Cyclical processing with cycle times from 5 ms upward
  • Fastest-possible processing (PLC mode)

Along with the user tasks, system tasks – in which functions can also be processed – are automatically made available. These tasks are executed once in case of the following events:

  • RUN
  • STOP
  • COLD START
  • WARM START (voltage restored)
  • REDUNDANCY TOGGLE
  • ERROR

Up to eight cyclic user tasks and one PLC mode task can be configured in a process station.

Intelligent linking devices
As the AC 800F possesses the high-speed connection of both PROFIBUS (PROFIBUS DP) and FOUNDATION Fieldbus (FF-HSE), the slower buses of the two fieldbus technologies (PROFIBUS PA and FF-H1) can be connected using intelligent linking devices.
These devices allow to connect several slow buses to one fast bus, with the advantage that a lot more field devices can be connected to an ABB DCS AC 800F station than when the slow fieldbuses are connected directly.

Maximum Security
In order to achieve safe operation and high plant availability, the ABB DCS AC 800F supports redundancy on all levels. This increases security and avoids production downtime! Redundancy is available for the:

ABB AC 800M Controller

The ABB AC 800M controller is a family of rail-mounted modules, consisting of AC 800M CPUs, communication modules, ABB AC800Mpower supply modules and various accessories. Several CPU modules are available that vary in terms of processing power, memory size, SIL-rating, and redundancy support.

Each AC 800M CPU module is equipped with two Ethernet ports for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. A Flash memory card can be inserted into a slot in the AC 800M CPU module to store the application and data.

The connectivity and expansion options make the AC 800M exceptionally open and scalable, that is, easy to connect to the surrounding world of supervisory systems and intelligent devices of all kinds – and adaptable to changing requirements as the process it controls changes or expands.

AC 800M High Integrity Controller
The ABB AC 800M High-Integrity offers an IEC 61508 and TÜV-certified control environment for combining safety and business critical process control in one controller unit without sacrificing the safety integrity.

The ABB AC 800M HI is certified to comply with the requirements of:

  • Requirement Class AK 1 – 4 according to DIN V 19250/DIN V VDE 0801
  • Safety Integrity Level 1 – 3 according to IEC 61508

AC 800M High Integrity Controller

The AC 800M HI offers a SIL3 TÜV certified control environment for combining safety and business critical process control in one controller without sacrificing safety integrity. When configured as a SIL1-2 system, the AC800M HI is realized in a 1oo1D structure by combining application execution in the PM865 with diagnostic and monitoring functions in the SM811/SM810. When configured as a SIL3 system, the AC800M HI is realized in a 1oo2D structure by executing application in both PM865 and SM811.

For embedded safety and control applications, all functions/types in standard libraries usable in SIL classified application are marked SIL2, SIL2 Restricted, SIL3 or SIL3 restricted. Embedded safety measures prevent inadvertant degradation of safety applications. SIL selection activates the relevant restrictions and limitations, such as only SIL marked elements to be used in SIL applications.

In SIL rated applications,it is possible to choose between three IEC 61131-3 languages, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, and Sequential Function Chart (only SIL1-2). For non-SIL applications, all five IEC 61131-3 languages are available for use.

Analog or digital I/O
Digital process interfacing modules typically provide 16 chan-nels while analog modules offer 8. Since an S800 I/O station can accommodate 12 I/O modules, this means up to 192 digitals or 96 analogs per station or any mix between the two extremes.
With optional Modulebus expansion, up to 24 I/O modules can be accommodated, thus doubling the above-mentioned I/O capacity.
The I/O modules of a station can all be mounted on a single rail or be distributed across several, in the latter case using plug-in interconnecting cables.

ABB AC 800M Controller

The ABB AC 800M controller is a family of rail-mounted modules, consisting of AC 800M CPUs, communication modules, ABB AC800Mpower supply modules and various accessories. Several CPU modules are available that vary in terms of processing power, memory size, SIL-rating, and redundancy support.

Each AC 800M CPU module is equipped with two Ethernet ports for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. A Flash memory card can be inserted into a slot in the AC 800M CPU module to store the application and data.

The connectivity and expansion options make the AC 800M exceptionally open and scalable, that is, easy to connect to the surrounding world of supervisory systems and intelligent devices of all kinds – and adaptable to changing requirements as the process it controls changes or expands.

AC 800M High Integrity Controller
The ABB AC 800M High-Integrity offers an IEC 61508 and TÜV-certified control environment for combining safety and business critical process control in one controller unit without sacrificing the safety integrity.

The ABB AC 800M HI is certified to comply with the requirements of:

  • Requirement Class AK 1 – 4 according to DIN V 19250/DIN V VDE 0801
  • Safety Integrity Level 1 – 3 according to IEC 61508

Several ABB AC800M CPU modules are available that vary in terms of processing power, memory size, and redundancy support. Each AC 800M CPU module is equipped with built in Ethernet port(s) for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. These ports can be configured for redundancy for those cases where availability is of paramount importance. It is also equipped with two RS-232C ports that can be used for point-to-point communication with programming/debugging tools and with third-party systems and devices.

ABB AC 800M PM851 Controller

The ABB AC 800M PM851 controller is a family of rail-mounted modules, consisting of AC 800M CPUs, communication modules, ABB AC800Mpower supply modules and various accessories. Several CPU modules are available that vary in terms of processing power, memory size, SIL-rating, and redundancy support.

Each AC 800M PM851 CPU module is equipped with two Ethernet ports for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. A Flash memory card can be inserted into a slot in the AC 800M PM851 CPU module to store the application and data.

The connectivity and expansion options make the AC 800M PM851 exceptionally open and scalable, that is, easy to connect to the surrounding world of supervisory systems and intelligent devices of all kinds – and adaptable to changing requirements as the process it controls changes or expands.

AC 800M High Integrity Controller
The ABB AC 800M PM851 High-Integrity offers an IEC 61508 and TÜV-certified control environment for combining safety and business critical process control in one controller unit without sacrificing the safety integrity.

The ABB AC 800M HI is certified to comply with the requirements of:

  • Requirement Class AK 1 – 4 according to DIN V 19250/DIN V VDE 0801
  • Safety Integrity Level 1 – 3 according to IEC 61508
  • Category 1 – 3 according to EN 954-1

The ABB AC 800M PM851 controller can be configured with both Compact Control Builder and ABB 800xA control builder.

When configured with the Compact Control Builder the ABB AC 800M is open to participate in any kind of control solution.

When configured with the ABB 800xA PM851 control builder AC 800M becomes a tightly integrated part of the 800xA DCS. PM851 Then offered and also described as a part of the ABB 800xA system offering.

ABB AC 800M PM851 CPU Modules
Several ABB AC800M PM851 CPU modules are available that vary in terms of processing power, memory size, and redundancy support. Each AC 800M CPU module is equipped with built in Ethernet port(s) for communication with other controllers and for interaction with operators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. These ports can be configured for redundancy for those cases where availability is of paramount importance. It is also equipped with two RS-232C ports that can be used for point-to-point communication with programming/debugging tools and with third-party systems and devices.
